Fancy Ladies

Here's another photo from Monday on Memorial Day. Ladies were dressed up in their era clothes for the encampment. These ladies had to be hot in those dresses but I bet the guys were even hotter dressed in those heavy uniforms. I posted photos of them doing the reenactment here: lv2scpbk.blogspot.com You may have to scroll down just a bit to see them.

Very colourful, it would have been a lovely day out!

The dresses seem hot enough, and one of them has a shaw, to boot. The picture really brings to life the celebration.

Such colorful dresses. They do look like they must have been hot though! All of your Boalsburg photos have been terrific.
P.S. Your Memorial day post was wonderful and very touching.

Thanks Lori. Did you ever go to the Boalsburg Memorial Day festivities?

Wonderful photos from your Memorial Day activities. I especially like the Maypole dancers ... Sometimes it is good to remember how common things have changed such as clothing. It make me wonder what those in the future will think of our current time clothing.

How adorable. I saw a reinactment of a Civil War battle once...it was very interesting to see the costumes. These are lovely.

This is a very nice tradition...is it only in Bellafonte they dress in this lovely way?

I love seeing people do this kind of thing. When we lived in Georgia, Civil War reenactments were really big there. They'd have a whole field full of hundreds and hundreds of men in uniforms of both North and South and encampments and everything. Your pics reminded me of that.

Period costumes are always nice to see. Nice photo.

Lovely costumes but I do be they were hot. I see people in the background in shorts and t shirts..
Looks like a wonderful celebration.

I am so glad I was born in the 20th century ;-)
I cannot imagine wearing those dresses in Florida...Do you think that's the reason so many ladies had "the fainting spells"?

I'm going to Philly in September to visit my son - my yearly treck. Can't wait - love Pennsylvania!

Thanks for all your nice comments.

Denton, Yes, I do think their think we dressed funny when it gets to be about 50 years down the road.

Beetle, they dress this way only on Memorial Day. I could be wrong. I know they have reenactments at Gettysburg and maybe any other battlefields at different times of the year. I went to a Medieval Times festival and their dress is nice. They hail to the Queen all day. If I ever get back to one, I'll post sometime. I know they do them in Pittsburg and several other places in PA.

Jam, That would be nice to see the whole field with them. My husband is very much into the Civil War stuff. He can tell you alot about that time and where they fought, etc.

Isabella, I'm not sure why they had the fainting spells but I know I would if I had to wear them.

Diana, Have fun in Philly. Do you get the philly cheesesteaks while there? Have you gotten you photo taken on the steps where they filmed Rocky?

Photowannabe, Yes it was hot that day. Not as hot as it could have been but still too hot to wear those.

How awesome, I don't think we celebrate like that here in Phoenix. Looks like a fun time.

Which era was it? :-)
