While looking around to find my "F" post for ABC Wed., these fire hydrants caught my attention. Here's some colors of fire hydrants you'll find around our area. What's wrong with these pictures? What ever happened to good ole fire engine red?
Well, at last, I found a good ole red fire hydrant. Not in State College, Not in Bellefonte, but they have them in Centre Hall, about a 15 minute drive from Bellefonte.

If my memory serves me well, Fire Hydrants are painted colors for a reason. Ones that are green should have a high pressure of water in them, the yellow ones are lower in water pressure, and the red ones are low water pressure. However, some are painted just for the fun of having something different. At least, that's the way it is around here.
What colorful fire hydrants! We could use some like that to brighten up our landscape!! But I think Corker is right, the colors-- at least some of the colors have a reason behind them. Whatever, I love them! Marvelous shots, Barb! Hope you're having a good week!

Nice set. The lavender one looks perfect for spring. :)
We don't have fire hydrants, red or otherwise coloured. I think we have fire taps or something like that.
Those fire hydrants look really nice though, in every colour!
OMG I so love the colors ^_^
F is Family
That is so interesting : )
Leave it to a Pennsylvania town to do something pretty like that : )
For a while, our hydrants were all painted yellow, but I noticed recently that they're bright red again!
Interesting! The local hydrants are yellow. Great F choice!
Interesting colors! All our hydrants are bright red in color.
The lavendar fire hydrant is a color I have never seen on one before. The different colors certainly brighten up the place.
These are great! I have on that I need to paint that is currently yellow. It inspires me to get it done!
Apparently your fireplugs wanted freedom of expression.
What a bright and fun assortment.
And just think, if all of the dogs from ABC Wednesday last week could only see, the would be fighting their way to your blog
belle collection
les notres sont toujours rouges
In the UK they're buried underground, accessed by a hatch in the pavement.
as anthony just said we don't have them here - in american films cars seem to be always driving into them!
they don't even look like the same type - how odd. Pretty, but peculiar.
They always remind me of little people. In fact along time ago in Washington DC I did see one that was painted to look like a person.
Wonderlfully colourful FIRE HYDRANTS! Great post!
Thank you also for your kind words that you left on my abc-Wed-post "F as in FELINE"

Cajsa Cat and Calle Cat (who played the feline-rolls).
love them once seen fire hydrants dressed up as little people
Corker is actually right. If it painted to code, then each part of the hydrant has a color meaning. Actually, "old fashioned red" is really not what you want to find if you are fighting a fire (it means flow of less than 500gal/min if the top is red, and it means it has to be pumped if the outlet cap is red).
You can read more about it here
Great pictures, by the way, and a nice addition to the "F"s!
Like you I think I prefer the good old red ones!!

We don't have fire hydrants here - a big letter H painted in yellow is a marker instead. Love the idea of the colourful hydrants though.
What a fun series! Not only different colours, but different styles as well. My preference is for the lavender.
On behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you!
As Strawberry Jam Anne says, no hydrants, here, just a yellow H which marks the spot of an underground access point. Pity. I rather like that lavender hydrant!
