I believe the seventeen-year locust is also referred to as cicadas.

So far we have none this year. I am not thankful as I love to hear them singing. They spend almost all of their lives in the ground so we never get to see them or what a they. I know they don't sunscribe to the New York Times or drink Maxwell coffee, so they got to be decent bugs.
Oh i don't think i have ever seen these before, maybe we don't have them out here in the west

Wierd little things. Very creepy crawly for critters.
I love finding these on our trees and bushes. So mysterious. I hear them all summer long, so very loud, but I hardly ever get to see them. Great photo!

The thing I always remember about locusts, besides how cool it is that they shed their whole skin, is when they are all "chirping" you can't hear yourself say your "S's"
Cicadas are SO COOL! I got a pretty good shot of one last year. Then, my puppy decided to eat one right in front of me... YUCK! hehe

We used to collect these when we were kids. We would get a bunch together then throw them on the girls. We were so bad. LOL.
