Bird

I got a close up of this bird this morning. Found her sitting on the nest under our porch. I didn't disturb her though. Maybe someone can tell me what kind of bird this is.

WOW! I love the clarity of your photo.

It doesn't look like a pigeon, which was what I had in mind when I first saw the photo.

I was thinking in the lines of a dove too. But, I'm not up on birds too much. I just know I like to look at them.

The name is "Mourning Dove" and usually uses the leftover nests of others. It is a miserable nest builder and most eggs fall out of the nest before they hatch. It gets its name from the male's mournful cry or coo that sounds almost identical to a woman's wail for a dead child. They are abundant in spite of everything I have said about them.

It's very pretty whatever it is!! I'm no bird expert so I am afraid I can't offer you any help but thank you for sharing the photo! :o)

You really got up close and personal ;-)Nice job!

Looks like a dove, but I would check with Abraham in Brookville OH.

Great shot! Don't think I've ever seen a bird like that. She looks very dedicated.

Well that looks kind of familiar. ;) Looks a lot like the birds i posted a picture of today, mourning doves as Abraham said.

The sound of mourning doves is very distinctive, and I find it rather soothing. Great capture.

In my opinion, it's a turtledove (une tourterelle, in French) and its "rouw-rouuw" gets on my nerves at 6 am every morning!
