Boalsburg Bicycle Memorial

This sits along the road near Boalsburg as a Memorial for someone who had gotten killed there. I'm not sure of the story behind this.

What an unusual memorial. When I saw the photo on the portal, I felt like I'd want to hop on it and pedal away. Still looks inviting but the memorial puts a different spin on it!

I first thought it was some sort of art exibition.
Then I read it's a memorial in honour of someone killed. Quite unique, it is.

I have seen lots of memorials along the roadside through the years; and this one is very unique. Often times I think of the families that are grieving for their loved ones.

Unusual memorial. Here in France people usually leave flowers or erect a small statue. This is beautiful and different.

That reminds me of the motorcycle in the cemetery that you posted a few months ago, and which I posted on my own blog, do you remember?

Very sad, yet very intriguing about the story behind it.

That really gets the message across.. Like you I would have had to take a picture of this... it's really quite moving isn't it.

I have never seen a bike memorial before either. It's very striking.

So sad! The photo does a good job of making one think about what happened there.

Yes, this is much more elaborate than any of the roadside shrines I've seen.

(Thanks for the visit and comment.)

Sweet, but sad.

Florida is a brutal place for riding bikes. Little to no shoulder on most roads, and if you dare ride in the lane like you're supposed to, someone WILL run you off the road.

this is sad.

This is a memorial for Dr. Bohdan Kulakoski. He was my teacher and friend. He used to ride his bike 5 miles home nearly every day, almost regardless of the weather. On 3/22/06 he was hit from behind and killed within sight of his home. I think the "ghost cycler" is a good memorial for his death.
